Medical Breakthroughs: First to Know

Letter from Ivanhoe's President

Thanks for Thanksgiving!

Blending two families is always a risky business but I am so thankful that mine and my husband's get along so well once a year when we gather for Thanksgiving. Linda Lorrier does almost all of the cooking with some help from her brother, Byron. I do the flowers, tables, chairs etc and it all rolls out pleasantly and sort of on time for the 22 people who join us. I love every minute of it!
     Watch our Medical Headline Videos:
  •      Dr Richard Isaacson, MD, Neurologist and Dirrector of the Alzheimer's Prevention Clinic at Weill Cornell Medicine and New York-Presbyterian Hospital, says at least 150 minutes of mixed cardio and weight training a week is best for us. He believes that one out of three cases of Alzheimer's disease might be preventable by making lifestyle choices early in life.
  •      Dr Amber Shane, DPM, , Foot and Ankle Surgeon at Orlando Foot and Ankle Clinic, used a revolutionary technique to save a young woman's achilles tendon. It is a fascinating story with such a happy ending.
  •      Dr Frank Sciurba, Pulmonologist at UPMC, is testing a minimally invasive technique to help emphysema patients. Seventeen centers are involved in the Liberate tiral around the country.
Our first special report this week is about how doctors at UAB aresending patients with COPD home with a smart phone so they can coach them through simple pulmonary exercises while monotoring their blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturation. It is cutting down on readmissions and that saves on costs.
