The kids are back in school, which means it’s time to talk about epilepsy and seizure safety for students. Check out CDC’s new feature and some links to make your schools and community safer for children with epilepsy.

Spotlight: Epilepsy in Children

About 470,000 children have active epilepsy in the United States. Picture a school with 1,000 students – that means about 6 of them could have epilepsy. Learn about CDC programs that can help parents and schools.

Epilepsy is Electric!  CDC’s BAM! Website Helps Kids Learn About Epilepsy

CDC’s BAM! Body and Mind website gives children aged 9 to 13 years information they need to understand their bodies and make healthy lifestyle choices.
The new Epilepsy is Electric page teaches kids about epilepsy, seizure first aid, and the harm of bullying. The “Q & A” and “Facts vs Myths About Epilepsy” sections provide answers to common questions and misunderstandings children may have about epilepsy.

Do you have a child with epilepsy in school or daycare, or do you work with children who have seizures?
CDC supports free training programs for school and childcare professionals through a partnership with the Epilepsy Foundation.
